How we remove ear wax

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout.

Microsuction

Microsuction is a safe and pain-free way to clear build-up of wax from your ears. Using a microscope and a suction device, your fully-trained practitioner will gently suction any blockages from your ear canal.

Irrigation

Warm water irrigation gently removes ear wax using a low pressure water jet which is angled towards the ear canal wall rather than at the actual blockage. This is to prevent the wax being pushed deeper and avoids any discomfort and ear pain.

The benefits of ear wax removal

Wax build-up in the ear canal can cause painful symptoms including tinnitus, earache and hearing loss. The most appropriate solution to remove ear wax depends on the individual, which is why we use two techniques – microsuction and irrigation. We’ll determine the most suitable method of removal following your consultation.
Ear wax microsuction has many benefits. It is fast, gives immediate results, and is safe for everyone. Because water is not used, the risk of infection is reduced. The procedure is also effective for hard or impacted ear wax, as the suction is strong and can remove even stubborn blockages.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Whereas ear syringing uses water to dislodge ear wax or foreign bodies, microsuction uses a suction device without water.
Microsuction is a very safe procedure. Provided you follow our instructions before and during the treatment, it will be straightforward and painless.
It is not recommended to try and clear your ears of ear wax at home. Using cotton buds or scratching your ears to try and remove ear wax yourself can make the build-up worse and cause complications.
It is no longer possible to routinely access free NHS ear wax removal services in England, although GPs can still refer patients on to a specialist service if the problem is linked to hearing loss. Read this article from the BBC for more information: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-68071665
